Event Information

The following information is provided to assist faculty members attending the 134th Spring Commencement on Saturday evening, May 20, at the Tower. Your participation is important to graduating students and their families, and we hope you will be able to attend. Details follow:

Faculty Reception

President Gregory L. Fenves and Dean of the McCombs School of Business Jay Hartzell co-host a reception for faculty beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the McCombs School of Business (CBA) 3.304. Faculty may choose to bring their regalia to the reception and put it on before lining up for the Grand Procession. Faculty will depart from the McCombs School location at 7:35 p.m. to move into position for the Grand Procession. A guard will be on duty throughout the evening so attendees may leave their possessions in the reception room.

Faculty Parking and Shuttle

For the university-wide ceremony at the Tower on May 20, faculty may park in the San Jacinto Garage (SJG) located at San Jacinto Street just south of Dean Keaton. Beginning at 6 p.m., a shuttle will run from the San Jacinto Garage to the McCombs School of Business (CBA), the location of the Faculty Reception. Following the ceremony, the shuttle will also be available from the McCombs drop-off location to return faculty to the San Jacinto Garage.  


Processional Route and Seating

Faculty have a visible and central ceremonial role in the evening Commencement. Faculty process from the Main Building down the South Mall toward Littlefield Fountain where they form an honor line for the student procession. During the ceremony, faculty are seated on raised platforms to the side of the Commencement stage so they can view the proceedings and be seen by the audience.
